Why Is She Famous?
This former Mouseketeer rubbed the charts the right way with the catchy single "Genie In A Bottle," and followed up her success with a tribute to her Latin roots, the album Mi Reflejo. Her 2006 album, Back to Basics, sold more than 3.5 million copies. And who can forget that lesbian kiss with Madonna at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards or those chaps that she sported in her "Dirrty" music video?
Success
Christina's success was almost instantaneous. Her first single, 1998's "Reflection" from the Mulan soundtrack, which was released before she ever even recorded her first full-length album, peaked in the top 20 on the Adult Contemporary Singles Chart, and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in 1998.
The first single from her 1999 self-titled album, "Genie In A Bottle," went to No.1 and her album sales toppled the 10-million mark. The album also earned her the Best New Artist award at the 2000 Grammys.
After the release of Christina Aguilera, the songstress released the ever-popular "Lady Marmalade" single with Pink and Lil' Kim in 2001 (which nailed No.1 on the charts), put out Stripped in 2002 (which sold more than 10 million albums worldwide), and released Back to Basics in 2006 (which sold more than 3.5 million albums worldwide).
Throughout her career, Christina Aguilera has been nominated for more than a dozen Grammy Awards, and has managed to take home a few.
