But it seems that behind closed doors Madonna may not be the domestic tyrant she's often cast as.
The pop star stars in a new advertising campaign for Dolce and Gabbana, in which she washes the dishes, prepares vegetables and even uses her hands to tuck into a bowl of messy pasta.
For someone who once survived on a strictly macrobiotic diet, it is certainly a change of direction.

The photos of the blonde singer show her apparently caught unawares, perched by the sink or shouting over her shoulder.
They feature in this month's Vanity Fair Italy, which has a preview of the fashion label's spring/summer 2010 collection.
Designer Stefano Gabbana tells the fashion magazine that Madonna does indeed wash the dishes at home.

'Certainly...she's a very practical woman,' he said.
And he even claims to have seen the star, who has Italian heritage, eat spaghetti.
'Of course and she can allow herself to with all the exercise she does!'

The campaign is inspired by Italian neorealism cinema, something Gabbana says Madonna knows all about.
'She loved the collection,' he said. 'She is passionate and impressively knowledgeable about Italian cinema.'
The advert is certainly a change from her last campaign, for Louis Vuitton, in which she posed scantily clad on a sofa, with a bag swinging from her foot.
